In recent years, celebrities seem to be trying to outdo each other with the crazy and unique names they have chosen for their offspring. With the world in anticipation as to their chosen baby name, they have certainly been keeping it interesting in Hollywood.
Eissa – Janet Jackson
In 2017 and at the age of 50, Janet Jackson gave birth to her first child with her husband, Wissam Al Mana. The couple welcomed a baby boy named Eissa which means “Yahweh is salvation,” and Yahweh means God in Hebrew.
Ace Knute – Jessica Simpson
Jessica Simpson has gone from pop singer to reality star, to fashion mogul during her career, and the blonde starlet proves she can do no wrong – other than mistaking tuna for chicken. Simpson has continued to make her mark in Hollywood, and she struck again when she chose the unusual moniker for her baby boy. In 2013, Simpson and her footballer husband welcomed a son who they named Ace Knute. Undoubtedly, this choice of name is unlikely to be found in popular baby name books.
Henry Wilberforce – Jessica and Ben Duggar-Seewald
Jessa and Ben Duggar-Seewald have explained their reasoning for choosing their son’s name. Henry Wilberforce was born on February 6, 2017, and was the second child of the couple. They revealed that the middle name was taken from a politician who helped the slave trade. Ben expressed, We really like it. We just thought it was cute, but also there was another great man of God named Matthew Henry who lived before Wilberforce, and he wrote a lot of great commentaries.”
Audio Science – Shannyn Sossamon
During their two year romance, actress Shannyn Sossamon and book author and illustrator Dallas Clayton welcomed a baby boy into the world named Audio Science. While there is no guess as to where this name came from, Sossamon has discussed the changes motherhood brought to her life. In an interview, she expressed, “I wasn’t ready to be a mom. But if you have any desire to be a better person, having a baby kicks it right into gear. Now I’m a better actress and a better mother.”
Ode Mountain – Jena Malone
When Hunger Games star Jena Malone welcome her son with boyfriend Ethan DeLorenzo, they chose a highly unusual name for their new bundle of joy. Ode Mountain DeLorenzo was born in 2016, and the couple is still yet to announce their reasoning behind their choice of name. An “ode” is a poem which gives praise to a person, and these new parents were perhaps hoping to instill their son with the power to always acknowledge the good in people. As for Mountain, that must be a whole other reason.
Rocket Zot – Sam Worthington
Move aside Rocket Man; Rocket Zot is in town. While Elton John does not use this name on an everyday basis, Avatar star Sam Worthington and his model wife Lara Bingle Worthington chose Rocket Zot for their child’s name. After welcoming their baby boy in 2015, the couple said they decided Rocket at random, and that Zot was, in fact, the nickname of Bingle Worthington’s late father. You can’t knock it when it has a special meaning and purpose behind it!
Heiress Harris – T.I.
T.I. is well-known for going over the top from time to time, and he proved to be no different when it came to the choice of name he had picked out for his daughter. Clifford Joseph Harris Jr and his wife, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, had chosen the name Heiress Harris before the little tot was even born. The tongue twister choice will not have to worry about being the victim of any ridicule or jokes because, after all, she is the daughter of T.I., and no one should forget that.
Phyllon Gorr – Doutzen Kroes
Since many of us cannot say we share the same stunning features as supermodel Doutzen Kroes, then we perhaps cannot judge her for her choice in baby names. Kroes and her husband, DJ Sunnery James, went with Phyllon Gorr for their first son’s name. Perhaps not the easiest choice for other kids in the playground to pronounce, this type of name is more expected to come from one of the Star Trek or Star Wars franchise, as opposed to a young child trying to live a normal life.
Jagger Snow – Ashlee Simpson
Ashlee Simpson didn’t just follow her sister in a similar path when it came to their music career, but when it came to choosing a name for her daughter, she also went for a more unusual choice. On July 30, 2015, Ashlee and her current husband Evan Ross, who is the son of the iconic Diana Ross, welcomed their daughter, Jagger Snow. This unique name mixed both the little girl’s parents’ musical roots with a dash of a Disney Princess feeling to it.
Sno FilmOn Dot Com Cozart – Chief Keef
This choice of name has to take the cake above all unique and crazy names chosen by a celebrity parent. While you may have hoped that it was originally the made-up choice of name when you first heard it, you will find that Rapper Chief Keef really did call his newborn son, Sno FilmOn Dot Com Cozart. That’s right, the rapper chose the exact address of his record label’s website, and he used his baby as a way to promote his new album in September 2015.
Apollo Bowie Flynn – Gwen Stefani
Before the two stars divorced, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale welcomed three children into the world. When their third child was born in 2014, the couple chose to name their son Apollo Bowie Flynn. With a musical background, it was assumed that the given choice of the name Bowie was a tribute to the late star, David Bowie. However, Rossdale took to Twitter to explain how Bowie and Flynn were actually the couple’s mothers’ maiden names, and the tribute to the singing legend was completely accidental.
Elsie Otter – Zooey Deschanel
Zooey Deschanel has never been one to provide us with a lack of humor and entertainment. So much so, we wouldn’t expect anything less from the New Girl actress to give her newborn daughter a more quirky name. Three months after giving birth to her daughter, Deschanel finally decided to let the public know what her and her producer husband, Jacob Pechenik, had chosen for a name. Elsie Otter was the big reveal, and Zooey admitted that “sea otter” was the inspiration behind the strange choice of name.
Aurelius Cy – Elle Macpherson
When Australian supermodel Elle Macpherson and her ex-husband Arpad Busson welcomed their second son on February 4, 2003, they chose to go for a less conventional name for their newborn. Aurelius Cy Andrea Busson was their chosen choice, which is also the male version of the name for the elite group of families in the time of the Romans. Elle and Arpad had already chosen to go with a more unusual name for the birth of their first son, whose name is Arpad Flynn Alexander Busson.
Blue Angel – The Edge
David Howell Evans is an English-born Irish songwriter and musician and known as the lead keyboardist, guitarist, and backup vocalist for the famous band, U2. Better known by his stage name The Edge, he was certainly living on the edge when he and his wife chose the name for their baby daughter. While they did not go after any Biblical figure or common baby name, their choice of Blue Angel was rather fitting for their daughter born with glistening baby blue eyes.
Rocket Ayer – Pharrell Williams
Pharell explained to Oprah the meaning behind his son’s, Rocket Ayer, name. He said, “In the same way that the Indians name their children, like, behind a force or an animal or an element, we named him after a man-made machine that was meant to go up. Meant to ascend. And metaphorically, it was because of, you know, Stevie Wonder’s ‘Rocket Love,’ Elton John’s ‘Rocket Man’ and Herbie Hancock’s ‘Rocket.’ All of my favorite musicians. And [Rocket’s] middle name is not Man. It’s Ayer, after Roy Ayers.”
Sage Moonblood and Seargeoh – Sylvester Stallone
Sylvester Stallone may have mastered the ring when he acted out scenes for Rocky, but he did not quite manage to have the same success when it came to choosing his children’s names. When you hear the name Sage Moonblood you wonder what that could mean. Unfortunately, Sage Moonblood passed away in 2012 after a heart attack caused by Atherosclerotic coronary artery disease. Stallone and his former wife do share another son named Seargeoh, so it was perhaps in their nature to go with more obscure names.
Fifi Trixibelle – Bob Geldfof and Paula Yates
Bob Geldof and Paula Yates really take the biscuit when it comes to their children’s names. When their first daughter was born, they stunned the world when they revealed their obscure choice in name. Fifi Trixibelle sounded like something out of Peter Pan, and the couple later went to have Peaches Honeyblossom and Pixie. It didn’t stop there either since Paula had another child with INXS singer Michael Hutchence who was named, Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily. The late Paula Yates certainly preferred going down the unconventional route.
Zola Ivy – Eddie Murphy
When parents Eddie Murphy and Nicole Mitchell revealed that they had named their newborn daughter Zola Ivy after her birth on December 24, 1999, it was considered a more peculiar choice during that time. However, the now 18-year-old shares the same middle name as the likes of Beyonce and Jay-Z’s daughter, Blue Ivy, and the combination of her names seem to flow very nicely with one another. Eddie’s other children are called Bella Zahra, Shane Audra, Brea, and Angel Iris Murphy Brown.
Destry – Steven Spielberg
Steven Spielberg has directed his fair share of Oscar-winning films, so he has come across some interesting characters in his time. While the fictional roles of actors on the big screen may have some unusual names, Spielberg decided to follow suit when he welcomed his newborn daughter with actress Kate Capshaw. The parents decided on a name close to both destiny and destroy, coming up with Destry. Destry is an aspiring model and signed her first big contract with DT Model Management.
Bronx Mowgli – Ashlee Simpson
Ashlee Simpson makes the list twice along with ex-husband Pete Wentz. The former married couple surprised fans when they chose the unusual name of Bronx Mowgli for their first child. While the couple has not shared their reasoning behind their choice for Bronx, as imagined, the couple revealed The Jungle Book inspired their choice for Mowgli. Wentz said, “The Jungle Book was something that me and Ashlee bonded over. It’s a cool name.” Hopefully, the young tot will enjoy the film as much as his parents!
Diezel Ky – Toni Braxton
Toni Braxton and Keri Lewis chose both an alternative name and spelling for their young song. Diezel Ky was their name of choice for their child, and this was not the first time they went for a more unusual choice as Diezel’s older brother is named Denim Cole. After showing signs of having autism, Braxton spoke about her son Diezel in an interview where she confirmed that her son has been cured of autism and is no longer showing any signs of the disorder.
Tallulah, Scout and Rumer – Demi Moore
They are both highly talented actors in Hollywood in their own right, but when this former power couple were married, they also made headlines for their choice of names for their three daughters. In 1998, Bruce Willis and Demi Moore welcomed their first daughter, and they named her Rumer. Rumer was followed by her younger siblings named Scout and Tallulah, making the Willis family that ever bit more interesting. Demi Moore kept headlines going when she married Ashton Kutcher who was 16 years younger than the actress and closer in age to Rumer.
Satchel – Spike Lee
Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee must have thought their daughter was just too cute to put down, that they wanted to carry her around all day. For that reason, it perhaps persuaded their choice of Satchel for the name of their daughter, after a bag she could be carried in. Satchel Lee was born in December 1994 and is now an aspiring actress. It seems her name hasn’t set her back either since the celebrity daughter is living comfortably in a $32 million townhouse with her brother Jackson Lee.
Kyd – David Duchovny
David Duchovny went straight to the point when he and Tea Leoni welcomed their son into the world. With a slightly different spelling, these parents decided to name their kid, Kyd. Just like calling your dog, Dog, or your cat, Cat, it should not be done and is setting the child up for some form of ridicule and teasing in the school playground. The former couple, had a little more creativity when it came to naming their daughter, and their choice of name was Madelaine West Duchovny.
Seven Sirus – Erykah Badu
With nine months to prepare for the birth of your child, you would think it is enough time for the parents to come up with a perfect name. However, when André Benjamin and Erykah Badu announced that they had named their son Seven Sirius, we were not too sure if they were serious about this. It turns out they were, and even when Erykah split from André, she had two more children named Puma and Mars. That’s right, her children are the names of a sneakers brand and a red planet.
Ocean, Sonnet and True – Forest Whitaker
With a name like Forest, it is no surprise the famous actor chose to go down a similar natural path when choosing the name for his three children. Starting with Ocean, and followed by Sonnet and True, Forest Whitaker and his wife Keisha Nash Whitaker seem to have taken names that you would expect to find out of A Midsummers Night Dream. As a very supportive family, it is also very fitting that their names follow a similar trend to one another.
Shiloh Nouvel – Angelina Jolie
As the child of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, you are sure going to grab the attention of many. However, just in case that wasn’t enough for the actors’ offspring, they gave each of their six children a unique name to make them stand out even more. Out of their six children, their biological daughter, Shiloh Nouvel is the more unusual choice. Born in 2006, the sister to Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Knox, and Vivienne, has been considered transgender by her parents and they have been very supportive of their daughters choice.
Jermajesty – Jermaine Jackson
It is not uncommon for parents to name their child after themselves. Their name may have proven to bring them a lot of happiness and success during their lives, that they could only dream for the same fortune for their child. Jermaine Jackson nearly followed suit with this, but he chose to put a twist on his name after his fourth child was born. As is common in the Jackson family to go a bit off the grid with their children’s names, Jermajesty Jackson was welcomed into the world.
Moxie CrimeFighter and Zolten – Penn Jillette
Illusionist Penn Jillette expressed, “I think it’s pretty cruel to give a kid a name that others are going to have. I always felt sorry for the Mikes and Bobs. I love the name Moxie, I love that’s it’s a purely American word, and those are rare, and I love that it stands for old fashioned spunk and energy. EZ pushed for her middle name, “CrimeFighter” because EZ doesn’t have a middle name and thinks middle names are stupid. So, it’s just a joke.”
Kal-El – Nicolas Cage
Nicolas Cage proved to be quite the Superman fan when he named his child Kal-El Coppola Cage, after the Man of Steel. The Hollywood actor shares his son with his current wife Alice Lee, and was even once said to be a potential to play Superman on the big screen. While he did not end up playing the part, he chose the superhero’s Kryptonian name for his son, while Coppola was a little more close to home. Cage is the nephew of the famous director, Francis Ford Coppola.
Pilot Inspektor – Jason Lee
When Jason Lee and his wife Beth Riesgraf chose to name their child Pilot Inspektor, we think they missed the memo on names which are just not meant for children. With one name meaning to drive a plane, and the other to solve mysteries, we are unsure as to what the actor and his wife were hoping this name would achieve for their child. However, Lee did confess that the name came from a song by the indie rock band, Grandaddy’s from their album, “The Sophtware Slump.”
Moon Unit, Dweezil and Diva Muffin – Frank Zappa
What would this list be if there was not a mention of Frank Zappa and his bizarre choices for his three children’s names? Calling his children Moon Unit, Dweezil, and Diva Muffin really has no explanation and it is hard to tell which is more obscure than the other. However, Zappa’s youngest daughter is named Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen, so we think she may have to trump her siblings when it comes to the most unusual name. Hopefully, she goes by Diva Zapper which makes things a little more simple.
Poppy Honey, Daisy Boo and Petal Blossom Rainbow – Jamie Oliver
Chefs do like to add a little spice and zest to their meals, and just as many famous chefs prove, their creative minds get them a long way. That is perhaps why Jamie Oliver went a bit more creative when it came to naming his children. Along with his wife Jools, the couple has three daughters named Poppy Honey, Daisy Boo, and Petal Blossom Rainbow, perhaps hinting a fondness for flowers in the Oliver clan. They missed the trend, however, when it came to naming their sons Buddy Bear and River Rocket.
Bluebell Madonna – Geri Halliwell
The Spice Girls were all about showing off Girl Power from the late nineties, but soon their attention turned to motherhood. While they may be forming once again very soon, their life since the time they were in the band has changed very much. Geri Halliwell, who took on the appropriate stage name Ginger Spice while in the band, named her daughter Bluebell Madonna, paying homage to both a beautiful flower and to music. Halliwell has since gotten married and gave birth to a son, Montague.
Rainbow Aurora – Holly Madison
She went from the girl next door to the doting mother, having traded life in the Playboy mansion for starting a family. Holly Madison welcomed her first child with husband Pasquale Rotella in 2013, and the couple went for a somewhat unusual name for their daughter. Rainbow Aurora is their daughter’s name, and she was named after a sporty girl Holly knew and was jealous of in school. Despite what people thought of the name, Madison has always stood firmly behind her choice.
Tu Morrow – Rob Morrow
Sometimes you’ve just got to work with what you’ve got, and if your last name is Morrow, then obviously naming your child Tu is what you’ve got to do. That is exactly what Numb3rs star Rob Morrow and his wife Debbon Ayer did when they decided on a name for their daughter. While it may prove to be plain wrong and a cruel move by the parents, they at least gave her a different spelling than the usual ‘tomorrow.’
Blanket – Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson seemed to have a lot of crazy things going on his life, including his very own theme park in his backyard. However, when he named his three children, he really went all out. While Paris may be more of a common name, Prince Michael was a more interesting choice. However, he must have thought that nothing could beat this name that his next son was named Prince Michael II. Better known to the world as Blanket, this name proves even more obscure than the same name as his older brother.
Memphis Eve – Bono
When you give yourself the stage name Bono, it is unsurprising that a name off the beaten track will be chosen for your child. The rock star who bought a first-class plane ticket to get his favorite hat sent to a concert location, chose Memphis Eve for his daughter’s name. Many celebrities have chosen destination names based on where their child was born or conceived, but considered Memphis Eve was born on July 7, 1991, in Dublin, Ireland, there is little to no connection to Memphis!
Felicia Day – Calliope Maeve
When Buffy The Vampire Slayer actress Felicia Day gave birth to her first baby, she followed her former supernatural path by picking a name that was similarly out of this world. The 37-year-old took to Twitter to announce the big reveal, posting a photo of the adorable little girl’s tiny feet and hospital tag around her leg, with the caption which read, “Oh yeah Calliope Maeve has hit the world. Currently wearing a onesie that says “Bard in Training.”
Megan Fox – Bodhi Green
Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green are perhaps not the most conventional couple, and after announcing they were splitting, they later confirmed they were back together and having their third child together. Before this came to public, the spiritual couple chose a Buddhist inspired name for their second son who they called Bodhi. Bodhi means awakened and is used in Buddhism to explain the understanding a Buddhist has of the nature of things. In English, the name can be translated to ‘enlightenment.’
Drew Barrymore – Olive
The name Drew Barrymore and her husband Will Kopelman chose for their daughter may be found in the baby books, but it is not in the one with the long list of names. Rather, Barrymore has explained the reason behind the choice of Olive for their baby girl’s name, which she found when reading one of her baby books. She explained that in the book it said her daughter should be the size of an olive when three months pregnant, and from that moment she was sold on the name Olive.
Kourtney Kardashian – Reign
It is proving quite difficult to keep up with the Kardashians and all the unusual names for their offspring, and Kourtney Kardashian was no different after the birth of her third child. After convincing herself she was having a girl, she settled on the name Rain for the newborn. However, upon finding out that her third child was going to be a boy, she was still pretty set on Rain, and decided to just change the spelling of the name for her soon-to-be son to Reign.
Kristin Cavallari – Saylor
Kristin Cavallari confessed her daughter’s name, Saylor has nothing to do with sailors or the sea, but the inspiration for the name came from elsewhere. The former Laguna Beach actress said she chose the name for her daughter whom she shares with her football star husband, Jay Cutler after she met a dog with the same name while she was pregnant. Saylor is the couples third child, and she is the younger sister to their sons Jaxon and Camden.
Tori Spelling – Finn
Tori Spelling and her husband Dean McDermott are now a family of seven after welcoming five kids into the world. The couple share Finn, Liam, Stella, Hattie, and Beau. Finn Davey is the most unique name out of the bunch, and his middle name was given in the memory of Spelling’s grandfather. The famous parents have made headlines since it was announced that McDermott had an affair while married to the former 90210 star. However, it seems the couple worked through their marriage troubles, and they welcomed Beau on March 2, 2017.
Jessica Alba – Haven
While Haven may not be usual choice for a newborn, Jessica Alba did have a very special meaning behind the decision to give this name to her second daughter. During Haven’s birth, she was born inside the amniotic sac and Alba’s husband, Cash, commented saying their baby was born in her “safe haven.” It was after this comment made by Haven’s father that the couple knew they had found the perfect name for their child, however unusual it may seem to others.
Alicia Silverstone – Bear Blu
When Alicia Silverstone was pregnant with her child, she was probably scouring baby books for a name that really stood out to her. However, it was then with a little help from her husband Chris Jarecki’s mother that the couple’s baby name came to life. In an interview, the Clueless actress said, “We had narrowed our list to five boy names, and then we couldn’t really decide, she suggested Bear or Blu, and I loved them both.”
Kelly Clarkson – River Rose and Remington Blackstock
Season one winner of American Idol Kelly Clarkson has certainly stunned the world with her beautiful voice, and the award-winning singer and songwriter chose an equally beautiful name for her first child. With a nature-inspired feel to the name, Clarkson welcomed her daughter River Rose with her husband, Brandon Blackstock. The couple welcomed their second child and a son who they named Remington Alexander. Similarly to his sister, Remington is not such a common name, showing that the children’s parents like to be a bit different.
Liv Tyler – Lula Rose
Live Tyler welcomed her first child with fiance Dave Gardner, and the couple chose the name Lula Rose for their little girl. The granddaughter of legendary rocker Steven Tyler was given the lovely name which has a slight twist on more common names such as Lola, Lucy or Lily. In fact, the name Lula was voted the 39th most popular girls name in 1880 and, while it is not even in the top 500 top baby names in the U.S. currently, it could perhaps make a comeback one day.
North West – Kim Kardashian
Nothing should surprise us anymore when it comes to Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. However, the world was not too sure if they were being serious when they announced that their first child and daughter was called North West. However, while many were cynical with the name, even the parents themselves at first, big names such as Pharrell and Anna Wintour are the people that actually encouraged the name. Saying it was ‘the best name’ and that ‘North is a genius name,’ the power couple soon changed their mind.
Royalty – Chris Brown
Chris Brown kept the fact he was a dad a secret from the world until the young girl was one-year-old. Brown welcomed a daughter named Royalty with Nia Guzman, although the pair has embarked in many custody battles and court appearances with one another since. While Chris has been unable to obtain full custody of his daughter, he certainly gives his daughter the royal treatment and proves to be one proud dad bringing Royalty to red carpet appearances and showing her off on his social media.
Apple – Gwyneth Paltrow
An apple a day may keep the doctor away, but it will also happen to be the name for Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin’s first daughter. In fact, the former couple got the idea of naming their daughter Apple from Martin’s bandmate who had also given his child the same name. Gwyneth explained to Oprah that she believed and liked how Apple sounded “wholesome” and “clean.” Unsure of how she came to that conclusion since Apple sounds more juicy, fresh and delicious.
Bear – Liam Payne and Cheryl Cole
Liam and Cheryl surprised the world when they confirmed they were a couple despite their 10-year age gap and how they originally met. However, they managed to shock the world even more when they announced they were expecting their first child together. As already seen from the list Bear has been become an increasingly popular name choice.

The pair fell in love with the name, and they decided that Dusty Rose will be the name of their newborn daughter.
Ines & James – Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds prove they are a true power couple when they poke fun at one another on their social media pages. Just as they play the more unconventional Hollywood couple, they decided to go for unconventional names for both their daughters. They called their first born James after Ryan’s father who passed away. They felt the name could pass as gender neutral and was enough to pass for a girl’s name. Their youngest tot is named Ines which translates to “pure” or “virginal.”
Aleph Portman – Natalie Portman
Actress Natalie Portman was born in Israel and decided to stick to her roots when it came to naming her children. Along with her French ballet dancer husband, Benjamin Millepied, the couple welcomed their first son Aleph in 2011. The name, which can be spelled as Alef, is the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet. In 2017, the couple welcomed their daughter, Amalia, and her name means “work of God” in Hebrew. As for Ivy, the couple has shown they have a personal affiliation with the number four since both their birth dates and their wedding date fall on the 4th.
Ella and Alexander – Amal and George Clooney
Many may have thought that George Clooney would remain a bachelor his entire life and never bless the world with children of his own. However, that all changed after the actor married Amal and welcomed twins Ella and Alexander into the world on June 6th, 2017. These are the first children of both parents, and the couple went for more traditional names. Alexander is a traditional Greek name which means ‘defender of men,’ while Ella means ‘beautiful fairy woman’ and is, therefore, a popular name for little girls.
