The Bizarre Secret That Smallville Cast Members Failed To Keep Hidden

These Stars Were In A Cult?

Specifically, Allison Mack and Kristin Kreuk have recently been the subjects of a story that nobody saw coming. If they are found to be guilty, this dark chapter could tarnish their careers forever. One organization is responsible for their recent legal issues – NXIVM.

Vulnerable Women

Mack and Kreuk are believed to have been lured into something that can only be described as a cult. While many fans and people in the acting industry could never have anticipated the actresses to be criminals, in any shape or form, this is the reality of the story. The accusations that Mack and Kreuk have faced in recent times revolve around bizarre clandestine activities such as the branding of women and human trafficking. But who exactly is responsible for this?

smallville 24

The Organization

The supposed “cult” that the Smallville actresses were lured into was part of an organization that promotes self-help to its members. NXIVM, pronounced as “Nexium,” revolves around the idea that the majority of the world’s money is controlled by unethical people. Moreover, in order for humanity to survive, NXIVM has to usher in a new generation of ethical people to take hold of this issue. Ultimately, all it took was just one man to conjure up this ideology…

smallville 30

The Founder

The man who established NXIVM in the first place was a man by the name of Keith Raniere. As a result of his high position in the organization, Raniere developed a reputation as something of a guru, referring to himself as “The Vanguard.” He is believed to have used his power as a way of developing intimate relationships with his female followers. Also, Raniere reportedly established a sorority called DOS (Dominus Obsequious Sororium). So where does the cast of Smallville come into this?

smallville 2

Smallville Connections

Soon enough, the FBI found out that certain cast members of Smallville were so heavily connected with Raniere’s cult that some were high up in the organization. In an interview with The Daily Mail, a former member of NXIVM claimed that Allison Mack, who played Chloe Sullivan on the show, co-founded the DOS sorority. Eventually, Raniere was taken into custody and after a thorough investigation, Mack and co-star Kristin Kreuk’s involvement in the sorority was laid out on the table…

smallville 28

What Did Kristin Kreuk Do?

Former NXVIM member Frank Parlato was quick to dish out information on Kristin Kreuk’s involvement with the cult. The actress played the love interest of young Clark Kent, Lana Lang, on the show and it was during her time on Smallville that she joined NXIVM. It wouldn’t take long before Kreuk got co-star Allison Mack on board. “Allison was used, as was Kristin, as a lure to bring in other women because of their celebrity status,” Parlato said.

smallville 29

Kristin Denied Her Activity

According to former member Frank Parlato, Kristin Kreuk was part of NXVIM’s “inner circle.” Upon hearing about founder Raniere’s clandestine activities, she left the organization. However, Kreuk denies that this was entirely factual. “The accusations that I was in the ‘inner circle’ or recruited women as ‘sex slaves’ are blatantly false,” she tweeted. “During my time, I never experienced any illegal or nefarious activity. I am horrified and disgusted by what has come out about DOS.”

smallville 5

Kristin Had Her Reasons

Despite her disdain for the sorority, Kreuk was quick to defend her reasons for joining the organization in the first place. She explained that she originally joined NXVIM to help her tackle shyness. Ultimately though, she regrets having anything to do with Raniere and co. “I am deeply disturbed and embarrassed to have been associated with NXVIM,” she wrote. “I hope that the investigation leads to justice for all those affected.” As for Allison Mack, her experience was very different…

smallville 35

Mack Of All Trades

A few years after Kreuk joined NXVIM, so did Mack. Amazingly though, the latter would soon become more devoted to the cult than the former ever was. The Smallville star’s fame made her a popular figure at NXVIM. It wouldn’t take long before Mack became a leader in a string of smaller groups in the organization. One of these was Jness, a movement aimed to empower the female members of the NXVIM. Of course, Mack’s defining contribution was the founding of DOS…

smallville 7

Empowering Women

Despite her recent legal entanglements, Mack continued to be a devoted member of NXVIM, specifically through her involvement in Jness. The Smallville actress expresses her devotion to the cause through the movement’s social media outlets. “The curriculum continues to guide me through the maze of my inner world shining light on the dark corners of my psychodynamic revealing confusions and insecurities that have hindered the expression of the authentic, empowered woman I have always sought to embody,” she wrote.

smallville 31

Mack Is Devoted As Ever

After everything that happened involving NXVIM, Allison Mack continues, to this day, to express her devotion to Raniere’s cause. Even on her official website, Mack wrote the following: “Over the course of several years, Mr. Raniere mentored Allison in her study of acting and music. As such, she has developed a deep connection to the nature of humanity as it relates to acting as an art form, and a tool for personal evolution.” But it doesn’t end there…

smallville 8

Mack & Raniere Were A Team

Mack’s appreciation for Raniere was deep-rooted in his keenness to collaborate with her. One project that the pair formed together was a group called The Source. Mack described the initiative as “a private arts academy.” According to her, the aim of The Source is to “[provide] a unique toolset and innovative exercises to increase one’s mastery of the art of compassion, utilizing the disciplines of acting and expression.”

smallville 10

Inspired Or Brainwashed?

When it comes to the way that Raniere’s teachings have impacted Mack’s way of thinking, many have argued about the way in which this was done. Was Mack emotionally manipulated or was it a genuine form of education? When Raniere shared some thoughts about being able to “breakthrough a type of existential isolation,” the speech brought Mack to tears. However, Frank Parlato is one of the most skeptical individuals when it comes to Raniere’s rhetoric. Moreover, DOS sheds a new light on this philosophy…

smallville 9

DOS – Dominant Over Submission?

According to Parlato, DOS could also stand for “dominant over submission.” He believes that Mack and Raniere recruit their female members through the collation of revealing photos. That’s not all though. Applicants need to take what is known in DOS as “The Vow.” Apparently, pledges must give “lifetime slavery to Mr. Raniere and Miss Mack.” The nature of DOS seems to completely contradict the female empowering philosophy of Jness. However, this is just scratching the surface of DOS…

smallville 4

Tumbling Down The Rabbit Hole

According to Parlato, groups such as Jness and DOS are simply stepping stones that make vulnerable women descend into a deep pit of abuse and manipulation. At the bottom of that “pit” is Raniere, waiting for an opportunity. “The ‘cream’ of Jness women are invited to join DOS, and the ‘cream’ of DOS women are invited to join Mr. Raniere’s harem [subject to his approval],” Parlato said. But what exactly is the Smallville star’s role in all of this?

smallville 37

Mack’s The Leader Now

Just a year ago, Allison Mack became the leader of DOS. One of her biggest responsibilities is to travel around the world looking for young potentials to join Raniere’s deep and convoluted cult, including the many groups of NXIVM. Although this is what Parlato had to say, Mack has never officially gone on record and admitted to her involvement in DOS, specifically. To this day, Mack has not been convicted of any illegal activity. However, someone else has…

Women Were Branded

One of the most shocking details about the DOS and its cult activities came to light in recent times. Many women have reportedly claimed to have been “branded” by force. This was done using a surgical instrument. Apparently, someone used it to carve Raniere’s initials into the aforementioned women’s skin. One woman, Sarah Edmondson, commented how a number of other women were branded before being told that the mark was a “tattoo,” which was a Latin symbol for “the elements.”

smallville 26

Raniere Behind Bars

Mack’s supposed involvement with DOS brings us full circle to Raniere’s recent arrest, which happened in spring, 2018. On March 26, the “self-help guru” was put into custody after being taken away from a luxury resort in Mexico. The man was extradited to Texas, being charged for “[human] trafficking, [human] trafficking conspiracy and forced labor conspiracy.” The big question is this: did the FBI also believe that Mack was the woman working alongside Raniere? Or would she end up in the clear?

smallville 3

Zero Co-Conspirators?

Not only was there was no mention of Mack’s name in the FBI’s report, but there was no indication of a potential co-conspirator in the case. At this stage, the only hint that members of the cast of Smallville were involved in human trafficking was from two sources. Parlato’s words didn’t carry too much weight as far as the authorities were concerned. However, the many women who came clean about Raniere’s activity seemed to give the FBI probable cause to carry on investigating.

smallville 16

Guilty As Charged

Despite there being no concrete evidence to suggest that Mack was Raniere’s co-worker in the cult, there was no denying the latter’s involvement in this dark, twisted organization. United States Attorney Richard P. Donoghue made this clear enough when he announced the charges: “As alleged in the complaint, Keith Raniere created a secret society of women whom he had sex with and branded with his initials, coercing them with the threat of releasing their highly personal information and taking their assets.”

smallville 21

Mack Was In Mexico

Although the FBI wasn’t so interested in the Smallville actress’s involvement, they soon discovered that Mack was a witness to Raniere’s arrest! It was Frank Parlato, of all people, who got cell phone recordings that detailed the moment that Mack witnessed Raniere being dragged away by the Mexican authorities. Soon enough, the footage that Parlato put together would be released to the world. It all but confirmed that Mack was Raniere’s second-in-command. However, the madness didn’t end there…

smallville 33

The Chase Is On

Although Raniere was taken by the Mexican authorities, a group of his followers were believed to have followed the car that he was put in, in what sounds like could’ve been a scene from The Fast & The Furious. Once again, it was Parlato who had video footage that, not only proved the car chase, but identified the three women involved. That’s not all though. The women can even be heard on the video saying, “we’re going to follow.”

smallville 19

Smallville Joins Forces With Battlestar Galactica?

To make matters even more bizarre, one of the women who was believed to be involved in the car chase was none other than Battlestar Galactica star Nicki Clyne. “The video shows how brainwashed these women are that they are prepared to put themselves in danger to try and save their ‘leader,'” Parlato said. “Allison Mack is the blonde woman shown in the video – and Nicki Clyne and other followers can be heard in the background.”

smallville 12

Time Running Out For Mack

The women failed to catch the cop car, and in this particular “episode,” it was Raniere who was put into custody, which was soon followed by a legal hearing back in the United States. However, this wasn’t the end of the case, by a long shot. Mack may have thought she was in the clear after not being arrested alongside him back in Mexico. However, it wouldn’t take long before federal authorities took notice of her potential involvement…

smallville 34

Finally Caught

Just a month after Raniere was convicted, Mack was arrested on virtually identical charges. According to Richard P. Donoghue, Mack “recruited women to join what was purported to be a female mentorship group that was, in fact, created and led by Keith Raniere. The victims were then exploited…for their labor, to the defendants’ benefit.” It was also specified in the five-page indictment that the victims were coerced into inappropriate activity by “means of serious harm or threats of serious harm.”

smallville 22

The Case Goes On

Although the FBI hasn’t closed the case yet, they are confident that it won’t take long before Raniere, Mack, and everyone else who was involved, are brought to justice. In fact, they recently issued a statement, requesting insight from anyone who may have been involved with or fallen victim to the aforementioned cult. “We ask that anyone who might have been a victim to reach out to us with information that may further our investigation,” FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge William F. Sweeney said.

smallville 27

I’m Not Guilty!

Amazingly, despite appearing in federal court after facing the same charges that Raniere faced, Allison Mack pleaded not guilty! Her lawyers have even asked for her release without bail but the judge decided against it. The former Smallville star may have had her initial say on the matter. However, if Mack does end up being convicted of the charges she faces, she can expect to serve between 15 years to life in prison. But what happens to NXIVM next?

smallville 17

NXIVM Still Defends Raniere

Despite Raniere’s charges, NXIVM continues to defend its founder and even posted a shocking statement on their official website. “In response to the allegations against our founder, Keith Raniere, we are currently working with the authorities to demonstrate his innocence and true character,” they wrote. “We strongly believe the justice system will prevail in bringing the truth to light. We are saddened by the reports perpetuated by the media and their apparent disregard for “innocent until proven guilty.”

smallville 40

Loyal To The Cause

Although the authorities are charging Raniere and Mack as a result of their actions under the movement DOS, NXVIUM continues to express its loyalty to their founder’s original mission statement. “We will continue to honor the same principles on which our company was founded,” they wrote. “It is during the times of greatest adversity that integrity, humanity, and compassion are hardest, and needed most.” However, NXIVM have neither admitted nor denied to their association with DOS.

smallville 41

The Point Of No Return?

What this story goes to show is that no matter how famous or rich you might be, one simply has to be vulnerable enough and have an insecurity that a cult could prey on and lure that person into. For the two stars of Smallville, NXIVM affected them in different ways. While Kristin Kreuk eventually got out in time, the cult seems to have taken Allison Mack past the point of no return. Surely, more developments about this story will soon unfold…
