It seems that people are less concerned about getting and eating their food in a restaurant, and are focused on a more important task at hand – getting the perfect Instagram picture. After all, if you don’t take a picture, did it really happen?
With millennials spending a considerable time socializing over food, their social media platforms are heaving with photographs of food and drinks, which have transformed into a key influencer when deciding which food we are eating and where we go to eat.
On the other hand, Instagram is ruining the dining experience in ways we have not even realized.
From the unicorn frappuccinos at Starbucks, to the avocado burgers that are spread over Instagram for all to see – and rush to get – chefs are admitting that they have had to compromise on the taste of their food for more “Instagrammable” worthy food.
It seems that it is not just the food that matters either. Restaurants are even basing their interior decor over what will be considered Instagram worthy, which seems to typically consist of neon lights, art with graphic words, and tile mosaics.
According to Interior Designer Hannah Collins, “It is something young entrepreneurs are always thinking about,” and Collins admits it is something that her clients often request.
However, although lifestyle blogger Zanna Van Dijk told The Independent, “Restaurants love to use it as a form of marketing,” many restaurants ask their diners to be respectable of others and refrain from standing and taking photos.
Portuguese chef, Leandro Carreira, who just opened Londrino in London, does not completely agree with this.
He admits that his food accidentally became Instagrammable, but there was no intent on creating food specifically for “the gram.”
“We’d never put style before substance,” he told The Independent. “We want to build a neighbourhood restaurant, where people become regulars and don’t just come to tick a photo off their list.”
However, he found that people loved his food so much that they shared it and it brought even more visitors in.
So, while it may be causing a distraction in some restaurants, there is no denying the positive effect Instagram has had on the dining experience.
40+ Designers That Have A Lot of Explaining To Do

Have you ever had an idea that when you executed it, it just did not work? Or at least work the way you thought it would! That appears to happen to everyone, including designers of products and projects. Sometimes it is a disaster, and sometimes it is just too funny to ignore. The latter is what we are looking at in this article. Below we have pulled together things that will cause you to truly question the designer’s thought process.
Meat You At the Park
The concept of this park seating area is pretty cool! Using natural crystals to give a unique look to the place is not only a unique idea but one that may help with the energy of the setup. However, maybe they should have gone with a more neutral color of crystal!

This shade makes it look like we are relaxing on well-marbled chunks of meat. That doesn’t sound very appealing to us. How about you?
Ketchup & Soap
The thought was nice, we think. Who doesn’t want to make their condiment dispensers look classy? But the design of this ketchup dispenser looks a lot like the soap dispenser our grandma had in the bathroom!

Maybe they should have changed the image to a vine of tomatoes, and then perhaps this wouldn’t stand the chance of being confused for some other type of dispenser. We are just trying to give the designer a little help, so there is less to explain next time.
So Care Free
Thinking about what is going to happen when you leave this world is already stressful enough without having to deal with poor graphic design. The designer may have been told to make the brochure a little more light, given the subject matter, and they certainly did that.

They need to give some reasons why they chose these images as the way to go! It’s not really appropriate… funny in a dark humor kind of way, but not appropriate!
Unfortunate Messaging
This message is very inspiring. The fact that music is universal and that everyone can enjoy it is a nice sentiment. But the imagery attached to the message is a little morbid and not very kid-friendly.

This drawing uses a musical note to try to show how music connects people. Unfortunately, it looks like an ill-conceived game of hangman, and that is just not appropriate for children to see.
Break Me Off A Piece
It started off so good. Then somehow, the designer of this chocolate bar mold went a little crazy. Maybe they were trying to make the bar different and fun, but when you try to split this chocolate, there are going to be some issues!

There is absolutely no way to break it up evenly, so this designer made an interesting chocolate bar. But they may have to explain why there are so many irate moms calling the customer service line.
Confetti Floor
This floor design is a janitor’s nightmare, and it is even worse if this is a place where small children congregate. It may have looked cool, but the designer needed to design with the end in mind. If they had, they might have gone a different route.

Imagine sweeping up this linoleum for a living. Frustration comes to mind, and that’s the last thing you want your janitor staff to feel!
Be Careful With Your Money
So the design of the machine is not bad, and the drain works. However, the layout of the two makes for some interesting conundrums for the people using the ATM. Let’s hope that there isn’t a strong wind, or the person hasn’t had one too many.

If either of these two things is present, there could be some serious money lost. We wonder how often they clean that drain? It could be a lucrative task!
Which Way Do You Go?
So once we stopped and really looked at this sign configuration, we were pretty sure it meant kids to the right and men to the left. But at first glance, the designer that laid out the signage is this store didn’t seem to have thought this through.

After all, depending on your way of thinking, it can be taken a whole different way then we deduced. Maye it wouldn’t be so bad if the signs were put together in the way they were meant to be read in one sign.
Fraternal Drinks
This company’s graphic design team seems to have gotten a bit lazy in their rush to get the new flavor out. The two labels look almost identical. In fact, except for the cut of the fruit and the name of the flavor, everything seems to be twinning!

Both flavors are nice, but if we were a consumer and we happened to pick up the wrong bottle, we may feel that someone needs to give us a reason why these two bottles look so much alike!
Numerical Coded Rooms
Who knew getting to your room would be a game of decrypting a code – spy style? When the person checked into their hotel, they understandably were a little confused and got lost when looking for room 402.

The designer thought this was interesting and cool, but all it was, was confusing. But then again, the hotel approved it, so there is more than one party that has some explaining to do.
OMG!
This van’s wrapping is a little on the abstract end of things. What is this van advertising? The graphic designer who created this graphic was either not given a clear direction or thought this image was self-explanatory!

But it is clearly not! The one thing we are sure of is that the van is a little creepy, and the woman is surprised and excited about something. What do you think it is?
Right In The Eye
This cup is so cute! We can see why this woman picked it up as a souvenir from her trip to Machu Picchu, but the design is a little flawed. Of course, you don’t notice until you have a llama in the eye. This is one dangerous cup of tea!

Perhaps they could have made the llama head shorter or placed it facing forward. Either way, this is an accident waiting to happen.
Is Something Supposed To Happen?
Virtual reality is a fun way to spend a few hours, but we are sure that you have to be looking at the screen to get the full effect of the entertainment. That is why this ad’s design has us scratching our heads a bit.

We’re not sure why the graphic designer decided to go with the screen and all its icons facing out, but this guy looks confused for a reason!
What Was That!?
Bright colors and fun designs are a great idea for a children’s school or preschool. The bright colors will help stimulate creativity, and so we can see where they were going with this, but it didn’t quite work to plan!

In fact, the painting on the floors looks like something from a horror film, and the little kids’ handprints at the end of the hall don’t help. This is one scary place. We half expect a clown to jump out at any minute.
Word Placement Matters
There is no way this designer could have gotten the message in the cross other than this word layout. However, unfortunately, if you are not paying attention, the message this symbol gives is very different from love and acceptance.

Perhaps they should have just chosen one word or the other. Either way, the message would be much clearer! Just so we’re clear, the better choice would have been “cares” as the symbol itself is synonymous with the other option.
Watch Out For The…
So design flaws don’t always have to be with clothing or graphics; sometimes, the design comes in the form of architecture or landscaping—kind of like this bike path. One thing is for sure – no one will be speeding down this bike lane (at least on this side of the path).

When the taxpayers saw the end result of this project that probably took months, they had every right to ask for some explanations. After all, who thinks that speed bumps in a bike lane are a good idea!?
Danger!
Have you ever stubbed your toe on the edge of the couch or the bed when you were stumbling around at night? It hurts a lot, but nothing compared to what we assume this will feel like when that happens.

This is a clear miscalculation in the design process and one that is potentially dangerous. Maybe there was a reason behind the design. We are waiting for that reason to become evident, but it doesn’t seem to be doing so.
Discount Demons
There is nothing like a nice demon vinaigrette! No, really, this is an easy fix, but the worker who designed this sign clearly doesn’t think there is a problem with their writing. But we would like to inform them that there is!

After all, 39 cents seems a little low for a demon…oh, that is supposed to say lemons, right? Yeah, they need to remember that cursive isn’t a thing anymore and just write in good old fashioned lettering.
I See You
There are very few places where privacy is more important than in the restroom. However, the designer who worked on this bathroom opted to go for form over function to give the room a little more style and edge.

Unfortunately, that means that whoever walks by knows exactly what is going on inside. This is a little embarrassing and needs to be explained immediately! Also, who thought it was a good idea to take a picture while their friend was doing their business, that’s just cold!
Truth In Advertising?
It is rare that a company is willing to be as honest as this sticker is, but then again, we are sure that they didn’t intend for this to read the way it does. That is clearly a mistake in the graphic design department.

After all, we are sure that they didn’t want you to know that the fried chicken in the bag is going to be delivered with a reduced quality. Once they realize what is being advertised, we are sure that there will be some meetings scheduled with that designer.
Who Is There?
When you think about it, there seems to be no real reason that this glass door has a peephole. The designer clearly stuck to the traditional layout of the door, but sometimes it’s okay to let go of the old ways.

In the end, the owner of the house may eventually have a few questions to be answered by the designer. One of those will definitely be “why?”.
This Is Not a Drill!
This button looks super important, and so it deserves a place of prominence. We are not sure what it is for, but it is red, which usually means an emergency, so the placement behind the door seems like a design mistake for sure.

This is probably what the workers in this building think when they have that emergency drill a dozen times on the days when the boss goes in to do some office work!
What Floor Are You On?
Trying to get to the right apartment is challenging in this building for sure. You may need a code breaker to get to the right floor. The designer seems to have wanted to mix something up a bit, but they chose the wrong place to be creative.

The layout of apartment numbers is definitely unconventional and could use a little explanation of what exactly the thought process was behind the allocation.
Fifth Dimension Bathroom
The infinity mirror is a cool addition to a place like a bedroom or even a dining room. Maybe a library might be nice as well, but the bathroom seems an odd choice.

Maybe the designer was trying to make a small space seem larger, but most people don’t really want to see themselves doing their business like this. It’s time to sit down and hear the designer out! We are sure they have a good reason, right?
I’m Not Seeing It
If you follow the signs, you will be needing to call your insurance company and a lawyer, which is why we wonder what the designer was thinking by putting these signs up like this. As important as that morning cup of joe is, this seems very ill-conceived!

There really seems no good reason behind this placement, but hey, we are willing to listen to the designer’s thought process!
Fact Check This
What an unfortunate placement of the loading ramp. Perhaps the design team at Sara Lee should have looked at their delivery trucks to ensure that something like this wasn’t being put out there.

If you want our opinion, this is fake news, but let us talk about how something like this happened. Sara Lee has to like her own baked goods, right? If not, that is a tragedy, because they are pretty good!
Watch That First Step!
Why? For those of us that are super clumsy, this is just cruel and an accident waiting to happen. Why would the designer think this was a good idea? We all understand symmetry and style, but this is pushing that envelope.

The designer may want to get their explanations ready, because they might need it to explain why there are so many stairwell accidents.
Sitting In The Rain
The landscaping was already in place when this bench went in, so why the designer opted for this location is a mystery to us. It is clear that once the sprinklers turned on that this seat would be a little wet!

So, why did they go for this locale? Who knows? Maybe we should ask them? Though we are sure that the answer is going to be something about the flow of the park. Still worth asking, though!
Shhhh… Fire!!!!!!!
How very considerate of this designer to be concerned with the sleep cycles of the hotel guests. However, if there is a fire, the other guests are just going to have to put up with the noise.

Honestly, they won’t be able to hear the door shutting over the fire engines and the fire alarm, so don’t worry about it. But still, we think that there could be a fun explanation behind this interesting warning!
Insert Witty Line Here
Maybe this is a sample piece, but if it is not, then the designer has an interesting sense of humor. It is either that, or they made a huge mistake when they sent it to the textile shop. We are pretty sure that the sample text, although written very elegantly, was not what they intended to say.

Maybe the designer needs a better proofing system. Or perhaps the people that printed the fabric should have asked a few questions! We aren’t sure who is at fault for this faux pas!
Perhaps Not The Right Medium
It is a great idea to do everything we can to help the earth and create less waste, so the cause is just one. But where we have a few questions is in the medium used to deliver the message.

Maybe if you’re trying to get the individual to go paperless, an email or text may have been a better route for the designer to take. After all, either way, the person will get to see your catchy graphic and be exposed to the message as well.
Is it Cold?
With the hoodie zipped up, it certainly looks like the heat needs to be raised in the subway car. However, once they opened up, it became very clear that the shirt underneath had a design flaw.

The designer should have thought about that and maybe changed the placement of the balls. That would have helped a little bit, but there would probably still be some questions about the overall design no matter what.
These Are Trash Seats
No one is against keeping a place tidy and free of trash, but this placement for the trash cans seems a little unsanitary and not very well thought out.

If we were going to sit on these benches, we would want the seats on the installation’s far side. At least they are away from the trash a bit. But why the designer made this decision is still a mystery!
Décor Miscalculation
Sometimes making a bathroom chic and well decorated is nice, but sometimes it is an epic design fail! Kind of like this one, which makes the bathroom look like maybe there were some accidents in the stall!

The color and choice of the pattern are unfortunate. It is pretty obvious, but maybe the designer didn’t realize where the wallpaper would be installed! If they did, they got some ‘splaining to do!
Have You Washed These?
At first glance, you may think that these dishes just need a turn through the dishwasher. But unfortunately, no matter how many times you put them through the wash cycle, this is not going to come off. This is the design of the plates.

The designer must not have realized that this looks like someone dumped a bunch of coffee grounds onto a perfectly lovely dish. Maybe this was the look they were going for?
Where The Sidewalk Ends
At least they kept the same pattern. Instead of designing the sidewalk extension, the project manager just thought it would be easier to go around the post instead of cutting bricks to fit around it.

We’re not sure it’s the way we would have gone, but we don’t know all the facts, right?! So maybe they could walk us through the process of designing this sidewalk! After that, we can judge what we think of the end results!
How Much?
Is this a belt? Or is this some trend we haven’t heard of yet? Either way, there seems to be a lot of this garment missing. Maybe this is a designer trying to start a new trend? Good on you for thinking outside the box, but we are not sure this will take off.

But then again, there is always a trendsetter looking to try something new, so what do we know? Maybe we would be more into it if the designer discussed their inspirations with us!
I’ll Crawl Back!
This may well be the first sign of the robot apocalypse that is looming upon us. The placement of this bus wrapper is unfortunate, as it makes this baby look cute but deadly with its laser eye. The other baby seems to be unaware that his friend is a cyborg baby!

Maybe the person who wrapped the bus could have shifted the face a little to the left, and then all would be okay. Plus, we would get to see the adorable baby girl’s face.
Preventative Measures?
We think that the designer working in his graphic design program forgot to flip the image. If not, this seems more like a flamethrower than a way to put out the fire. Just another look through to edit and check all the images, and this wouldn’t even be a problem.

Unfortunately, they didn’t, and that leaves us with a bunch of questions. Not the least of which is – where is this flame thrower, we mean fire extinguisher?
Fight Club
This is one of those design mishaps that really depends on how you read the sign. If you are very literal, it looks like this fundraiser is having people fight children with diabetes. That doesn’t seem very fair nor appropriate for such a cause.

Sometimes, when it comes to graphic design, the layout is the biggest test, and unfortunately, it looks like this designer failed!
Go, Go…Batman?
Alright, we hate to say it but whoever was in charge of packaging these toys might not end up winning Employee of the Month this time around. We mean, as much as we love both the Power Rangers and Batman, they’re not even remotely the same characters.

Also, let’s not ignore the fact that the Batmans in this package are wearing Superman’s cape. Perhaps that’s why this product was discounted to $2.99? Did they really think kids wouldn’t notice these tiny details?
Spongebob, Is That You?
Hmmm. Why does this guy look so familiar? We just can’t put our finger on it! We’re only kidding. In all seriousness, though, this coin-operated mall ride has the face of Spongebob but the body of some sort of four-legged animal.

And while we can understand what the designers were trying to achieve here for all the kids who are major Spongebob fans, we can’t but feel like they completely botched the ride. We mean, we’re even a little creeped out by this sponge turned horse.
Bathroom Trip, Anyone?
It’s no secret that women love taking trips to the bathroom with friends. In fact, it’s kind of a known joke. Still, we can’t help but feel that whoever designed this bathroom didn’t think things all the way through. Not only do men prefer to do their business by themselves but they also like having space in general.

With that said, there’s no reason these toilets should be lined up so close together. It’s by far the weirdest bathroom floor plan we’ve ever seen. Whatever happened to privacy? Even ladies would have issues with this…
Why Isn’t Anyone Using the Bike Lane?
Call us crazy but shouldn’t bike lanes on bridges have railings? No? We’re the only ones that feel this way? As funny as it is to see this silly design, it’s hard to ignore the fact that people could get seriously hurt riding down this pathway with no railing to protect them.

The person who designed this either didn’t fully think this plan through or they’re just inherently evil. We’d like to think that this was a mistake but we really can’t be too sure. In any case, cyclists — be careful!
The Holy Grail of Light Switches
If we’re being honest here, we had a really good laugh after reading this sign. We’re not at all sure why someone would ever design a circuit this way — where the light switch also controls the elevator — but we do know that this might be one of the funniest design fails to make the list.

Of course, we probably wouldn’t be laughing as hard if we were put into a situation in which someone turned off the light only to bring the elevator to a screeching halt whilst on our way to the sixth floor.
Fahgettaboudit
Okay, so. We won’t lie; we do understand the message and actual intent behind this sign but whoever wrote it out definitely didn’t realize what they were doing at the time. After all, who reads from the bottom up?

The answer is no one…no one reads from the bottom up. If you read this in the correct direction — ‘Before you leave, forget to pay. Do Not STOP!!!’ — you can’t help but feel like this coffee shop is insisting on giving you your order for free. Well, don’t mind if I do…
Those Poor Children
Call us crazy but this sign makes us think an awful lot about Hansel and Gretel. We mean, these poor children! Why are people eating them?! And why is this sign so focused on having individuals put a leash on their dog — and clean up after them — when there are kids dying?!

In all seriousness, though, who in the world would design this kind of warning? Perhaps they thought it was amusing to jumble up all the words as such, or maybe they’re just totally oblivious.
Getting to the Website Is Part of the Selection Process
If you really want a job in government, you’ll certainly have to prove it. It’s simple, though, so don’t worry! All you have to do is spend 20 minutes typing the URL into your browser.

We know — it might seem a little tedious but it’s all part of the process, as we want to see how well you can read. Once you pass that inspection, you’ll move on to the actual application process. Now, let’s see who can handle this…
Fashion Fart
Oh, man. While totally hilarious, we can only assume that this sign doesn’t necessarily bring a lot of business into the store. After all, who wants the smell of farts surrounding them while they’re shopping around for clothes?

Of course, we understand that this sign actually says ‘Fashion Art’ — or at least, we hope it does — but the big ‘F’ bubble letter really isn’t helping matters. At this point, we can only hope that this place decided to do some rebranding. Who knows? Maybe they even hired a new designer…
Nothing Is Possible
Well, this might be the most pessimistic and uninspiring yoga mat to ever exist — which is ironic considering that yoga is an activity that’s supposed to lift you up.

Of course, it doesn’t actually say ‘Nothing is possible,” but the designer certainly didn’t think things through when they decided to place the “im” of impossible on the white part of the mat. Why wouldn’t they change the color of the font? Or maybe even get rid of the white spots on the mat altogether?
It’s Locked!
This design seems to defeat the purpose of the locked gate. There is no way anyone would not realize that they could just walk around the fence and enter this area that seems to be restricted.

So why did the designer stop at the gate? Was it a money issue? Were they trying to make a statement? So many questions! Please enlighten us so we can stop thinking about this!
Messaging Problems
When you design a piece of clothing with a message, you have to make sure that it comes across. This design seems a little wishy-washy. Are they anti or for? It’s hard to tell, especially when the hood is down.

This is just a case of not testing all the hoodie features out before sending it out into the world. But if we were this woman, we might opt not to wear this hoodie to the next rally…unless it’s cold, just keep the hoodie up!
Seems Obvious
Okay, so we are sure this design was made this way for a reason. However, until you stop and really think about the concept, it definitely seems like a big design mistake.

After all, it is pretty obvious what the next move is. Hopefully, when the designer explains the concept, they make it clear that is the point. If not, then this design may as well be lumped in with the rest of the faults in these pieces.
Is This a Good Idea?
Okay, remember when your dad or mom screamed at you to keep your hands on the wheel!? Clearly, the designer of this invention didn’t have that experience, or they wouldn’t have created this contraption.

Though we appreciate a good neck pillow and it is nice they worked on a place to have your hands, the driver’s seat may not be the place to use this product. So maybe it’s more about the graphic designer then the inventor!
How Does That Work?
Okay, so for the holidays, a waffle maker that makes snowflake pancakes is a fun idea, right? But when you look at the image, there is something very important missing that the designer should have caught before it went to production.

How does a snowflake appear from a traditional grid plate? Can someone explain that to us?! It is impossible, and we are sure that there were some very unhappy people when they opened this box!
