He Traded His Wife For A Younger Woman, But Seeing Her A Year Later Changed Everything

When couples say their wedding vows, they are promising to stay by that person for the rest of their life. One husband took these vows but years later, when his wife’s appearance changed, he didn’t like it. He decided to divorce and trade her in for a younger, more attractive version. But when he bumped into his wife a year later, he knew he’d made a huge mistake.

While there are constant stories online about couples getting together, there are also a fair share of stories splashed over the press surrounding divorce and split rumors. In the United States, the divorce rate stands at 50%, a huge figure for people who are supposed to fall in love and want to share their life with someone. Couples divorce for so many reasons but this husband’s grounds for divorce is perhaps one of the most superficial and shallow excuses out there.

In most cases, there are a few different examples of why couples would opt for a divorce. Among the most common grounds for divorce are harassment, adultery disability, desertion, imprisonment, domestic violence and irreconcilable differences. In some countries, divorcing a woman is more accepted than a woman divorcing a man, with the male getting the sympathy. However, because this was in the United States, the divorce was of total equality, despite the reason being extremely unfair.

Although the story was private initially, the man decided to finally tell his story in an attempt to express how he felt after the whole situation and to make sure that others did not make the same mistake that he did. His confession was posted on a Facebook page with the caption “When A Husband Can’t See His Wife’s True Beauty”. The man decided to hide his identity as the video explains what happened. The video went viral, receiving over 37 million views.

The video starts with the backing music of a piano as the first caption reads “A year ago I separated from my wife.” But the video continues and start to unravel a story which no one was expecting. It goes on, “I left her for a younger, more attractive woman.” From this statement, many of the viewers were hooked and wanted to know more about the story and how it unfolded. Many were quick to condemn the man for such a shallow act.

The video proceeds to unfairly describe the appearance of his ex, listing the changes in her appearance which resulted him to leave her. He said “My ex was flabby, unkempt, didn’t shave and had droopy breasts.” This admission seemed to be unfair as our bodies are a product of our age and lifestyle and in this case, it appeared to be stress and the perils of being a mom and wife. Many women struggle to keep up their youthful appearance.

The anonymous man then made a bold statement and said “I no longer found her attractive.” His harsh yet honest opinion seemed to be incredibly sad. Today, love and commitment is viewed to be much more than what meets the eye and physical appearance is not everything. Being someone’s life partner has many different factors and physical attraction will only be a small aspect of it. Nevertheless, many experts have noted the importance of a physical attraction in relationships.

Although he stated that his attraction to her was now gone, it was in fact extremely strong for the initial years of their relationship. He loved and appreciated his wife’s beauty but now it was different and he longed for it, stating “Her now-faded beauty was only a memory.” He thought long and hard whether he should stay in the marriage for pure convenience, hoping that they could get the spark back. But there was no going back and he decided to divorce her.

When the man divorced his wife and found himself a younger woman, he assumed that his past relationship was long gone and there was no looking back. However, there was a twist in the story and 12-months later there was an unexpected meeting. The man was walking down the street one day when he noticed his ex-wife walking on the other side of the street. He then said “Today, exactly a year after I left her, I saw her again.”

Although he felt in his heart that it was definitely her, he thought his eyes may be deceiving him. This was not the woman he had divorced 12-months earlier and this was not the woman he no longer felt attracted to but deep down, he knew it was her. Speaking about her appearance, he said “She was glowing and had lost weight. She was once again beautiful. She no longer showed her wear-and-tear of the years.”

When he saw his ex-wife, everything about her was different but somehow, she was still the same. His ex looked to have turned a leaf when her husband divorced her for purely superficial reasons. But her new appearance had him thinking if he had made a mistake, he said “Now I sit here and think about her extra pounds.” The anonymous man had an epiphany and realized that there is more to love than just looks.

The mystery man began reflecting on the reasons why his ex-wife’s appearance had changed. He noted “She got cellulite because she no longer had time to go to the gym. She had to take care of the kids at home.” He recognized that she had been putting herself last so instead of taking care of herself, she had been putting her energy into taking care of her children and making sure that they were ok, thus leaving her beauty regimen lacking.

The man continued in his discovery and continued “She didn’t have time to dress nicely. The little time that she did have, she gave to me and forgot to take care of herself.” The husband finally began to recognize all that his wife had done for him in their marriage and through his eyes, her lack of beauty was starting to fade and all he could see was her beautiful heart. He could now clearly see her kindness and care for everyone.

In the earlier stages of their relationship, before the children, his wife had much more time to make an effort to take care of herself. The commitment and love she gave to her children took away from her own appearance. The story narrator now acknowledged this, saying “Instead she changed diapers and breastfed until her breasts sagged, and she was proud of that.” There was now a new found appreciation for his ex-wife but he realized it when it was too late.

The video continues in reflecting on his wife, being a full time mother and homemaker, he said, “And after all of the exertion from cooking, ironing and cleaning, she seemed to be happy with her family.” It became clear that for his ex-wife, putting her family before herself was never an issue and she never gave it a second thought. She knew she had a duty as a mother to take care of everyone, but her husband never saw it like that.

The man suddenly became emotional and realized what he had lost in his life. He admitted “Now I know what it’s like to have a real woman at home.” However, he had made his bed and now he must lie in it. He let his eyes take over his feelings and when he didn’t like what he saw, he moved on. To make things worse, he was now with another woman who would never have the same traits as his incredible ex-wife.

There was no way out of his situation now. He decided to sacrifice his family and his wife for a woman who he thought was more attractive in her physical appearance. He didn’t take the other factors into account and his selfish actions had finally led him to a place he didn’t want to be in, and never expected to be in. He saw his huge mistake and said “I was foolish to trade true beauty for the superficial.”

He continued “I have lost this woman forever because I was unable to recognize and treasure the true worth of a dedicated housewife and mother. Now, someone else will do that.” Perhaps the worst part of the whole situation for the man was that he would never be able to tell her his true feelings and how much he appreciates her. But he was too late, there is no going back and someone else will take the special woman for their own.

While many complain about having a nine till five job and all the stress that comes with it, being a mom is a full time job, around the clock work. They never get a break but they also never complain. Their kids are what keeps them going, it might be hard but it is also incredibly rewarding. Moms don’t get enough credit for all that they do, always putting their family before themselves. This mother’s self worth was broken when her husband could not see this.

The mystery man let his incredible, resilient wife go, just for a younger, more physically attractive woman. But it wasn’t her revenge body that got him interested, it was the glancing at her and having a sudden admiration for the strong, independent and wonderful woman she is.
