A top US military official made an ominous statement after a defiant Kim Jong-Un seemingly taunted Americans in the wake of a successful intercontinental ballistic missile test. The North Korean leader made this haughty statement, in which he said “the American ba****ds would not very happy with this gift sent on the July 4 anniversary”, after the intercontinental ballistic missile test was launched Tuesday.
Recent claims have circulated that Pyongyang’s newest rocket can launch ‘large-sized and heavy nuclear warheads’. But the US, along with South Korea, quickly responded by conducting a joint ballistic missile drill of their own. After speaking out against Pyongyang on Wednesday, a top American general in South Korea issued a warning to Kim and others north of the border. In a joint statement, General Vincent Brooks said “Self-restraint, which is a choice, is all that separates armistice and war.”
Brooks continued, “As this missile live-fire exercise shows, we are able to change our choice when so ordered by our alliance’s national leaders. It would be a grave mistake for anyone to believe anything to the contrary.”
South Korea also spoke out about North Korea’s response, saying that it was “intended as a strong warning against North Korean provocation.” The South Korean government added, “This exercise utilized the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) and the Republic of Korea Hyunmoo Missile II, which fired missiles into territorial waters of South Korea along the East Coast. The system can be rapidly deployed and engaged. The deep strike precision capability enables the ROK-US Alliance to engage the full array of time critical targets under all weather conditions.”
A spokesman for the US mission to the United Nations reported that the US has put in a request for a closed-door meeting with the United Nations Security Council. UN Secretary-General António Guterres is another security presence who strongly condemned the latest missile test.
He said, “This action is yet another brazen violation of Security Council resolutions and constitutes a dangerous escalation of the situation. The DPRK leadership must cease further provocative actions and comply fully with its international obligations.” Guterres continued “The spokesman said the meeting of the 15-member council was likely to be scheduled for Wednesday.”
