The James Cameron iconic, blockbuster movie Titanic is still a favorite 20 years on. No one will ever forget the thrilling yet heartbreaking love story of Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater, but there are still so many unanswered questions and theories regarding the ending.

Was there room for both of them on the raft? Should Rose have let go? Was there another way they would have both survived? One scientist has recently released his groundbreaking findings, confirming that Jack would not have drowned so quickly in real life.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson has affirmed the assertions of so many in that Jack Dawson would not have died in the wake of the sinking ship, leaving some fans fuming that they had to weep for hours on end over the tragic ending to the story. Tyson explained that in a real life scenario, it is basic human instinct to fight for your life, rather than giving up so quickly, like Jack did.

In addition, Tyson went one further in suggesting that Jack might have fought harder to get up on the raft with Rose, saying, “Whether or not he could’ve been successful, I would’ve tried more than once. You [don’t] try once, [and think], “Oh, this is not gonna work. I will just freeze to death in the water.”

Moreover, the scientist argued that Jack previously displayed his survival tactics while on board the Titanic, getting off the ship before it took everyone down with it, so his final decision didn’t seem to add up. He said “The survival instinct is way stronger than that in everybody, especially in that character. He’s a survivor, right? He gets through. He gets by.”

However, the director of the movie, James Cameron, has spent years shooting down speculation that they both could have survived the fateful sinking ship, going through theories and deep thought behind the message of the film. Cameron asserted “Jack gets off the board and gives his place to her so that she can survive, it’s that simple.”

Regardless of the never-ending theories, Titanic will always be a tear-jerker with Jack and Rose always holding a special place in our hearts.
