These Scottish Entrepreneurs Have Come Up With A Clever Way To Replace Palm Oil

Palm oil has been responsible for deforestation, huge carbon emissions, and running native people out of their home. However, as more and more people are trying to avoid the product, these Scottish entrepreneurs have come up with a clever way to replace palm oil.

These Scottish Entrepreneurs Have Come Up With A Clever Way To Replace Palm Oil

Getting The Idea

Fergus Moore and Scott Kennedy were working together in coffee shops while studying at college. However, they noticed something: the incredible amount of waste caused by used coffee grounds. In fact, these coffee grounds can lead to half a million tons of waste in the U.K. alone. Fergus and Scott soon realized they could use the oil from the grounds rather than send it to landfills.

Many Uses

Household products, food and drink, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics – it looks as though palm oil is used in a whole host of things! However, that means that Fergus and Scott’s coffee oil could be about to affect many markets across the world. All they need to do is extract the oil from the used coffee grounds, and they could soon have a replacement for palm oil that will help to save thousands of acres of land in the long run.

Creating Their Product

The two entrepreneurs know what they want, and they know their replacement for palm oil will have some significant effects on many people’s lives. Now, Fergus and Scott just need to find a way to bring their dream to life. The pair have been working on a chemical technique that will be able to extract the oils from all the used coffee grounds.

Competing For The Prize

It looks as though there’s plenty on the line for Fergus and Scott thanks to their new way to replace palm oil. The pair have invested in their startup company, Revive Eco, in the hopes of taking their idea around the world, but that’s not all. They have also been chosen to represent Ireland and Scotland in the 2019 Chivas Venture. Now, 20 global initiatives are competing for a grand prize of $1 million.

Some of us spend our lives improving the world. Now, it looks as though these Scottish entrepreneurs could be about to change it all thanks to their clever way to replace palm oil. Sometimes, it can be everyday items that give us the biggest inspiration.

Victoria’s Secret Models Took Off Their Makeup And Left Us Speechless

Every year we wait in anticipation to see what fashion shows will bring to the catwalk. We have delved into each and every model and exposed them in all their natural glory.

Gisele Bündchen

Although it has been over a decade that Gisele hung up her Angel wings, she is still one of the most well-known Angels to date. This may or may not be due to the fact that in 2000, Bündchen wore the most expensive Fantasy bra of all time, the “Red Hot Fantasy Bra” worth an astonishing $15 million and was even listed in the Guinness World Records as the most expensive lingerie ever created. Although retired, she has made some appearances so we can only sit with our fingers crossed to see her again.

Gisele Bündchen

Lily Aldridge

Aldridge walked her first Victoria’s Secret show in 2009 and was given her wings, making her an official Angel, in 2010. Since then she became a regular, making yearly appearances and becoming one of the highest-paid models in the world. In 2015 she modeled the $2 million Fireworks Fantasy Bra at the New York lingerie show. However, this year one of our favorite beauties will be sitting out of the show as she is expecting her second child with Kings of Leon frontman, Caleb Followill.

Lily Aldridge

Shanina Shaik

Shanina is a half Pakistani and half Saudi Arabian Australian model who started her career at a very early age. Yet her real breakthrough came in 2011 when she was cast to walk in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show alongside other Australian models such as Miranda Kerr. After failing to make the cut for the last two years, this runway regular was shocked when she got the call for the 2018 show. She announced, “I didn’t expect that I would be doing the casting this year, in all honest truth.”

Shanina Shaik

Candice Swanepoel

Every year since 2010 when Swanepoel became a Victora’s Secret Angel, she has been among the Top 10 earning models. In 2013, she was given the privilege to wear the 10 million dollar Royal Fantasy Bra made of rubies, diamonds, and yellow sapphires. Despite giving birth to her second son in June, the model has confirmed via Instagram that she will be returning to the runway this November. Yep, just five months after welcoming her second child into the world she will be rocking a bikini body on stage!

Candice Swanepoel

Martha Hunt

Among the many other regulars that we expect to appear in the 2018 show is Martha Hunt. She has walked the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show consecutively since 2013 and became an Angel in 2015. This Angel is not only one of Taylor Swift’s BFFs, but she is also a spokesmodel for Free People. Despite being a 5 ft 10.5 inch model on the runway, many do not know that she suffers from Scoliosis, a curved spine, and therefore has scars down her back and on her lower right abdomen.

Martha Hunt

Barbara Palvin

Palvin, born in Hungary, has been in the industry for almost a decade and she’s only 24 years old. Her boyfriend, actor Dylan Sprouse, revealed he will be supporting his girl by “cheering her on very loudly, annoying her, embarrassing her.” Palvin, on the other hand, is more nervous as this will be her first time returning to the runway after two years. The L’Oréal Paris ambassador put rumors to bed when she thanked @victoriasecret on Instagram for making her dream come true.

Barbara Palvin

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Some of the world’s most successful models have appeared on Victoria’s Secret catwalk and this includes the famous Huntington-Whiteley. This classic English beauty was signed to the lingerie brand in 2006 and became an Angel in 2010 modeling for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in New York. She has since walked the runway or appeared in advertising campaigns for nearly every designer under the sun. However, she recently decided to leave her angel wings behind and launch her own business, Rose Inc.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Stella Maxwell

Voted number 1 in the 2016 Maxim’s “Hot 100 List,” this model looks flawless even without an ounce of makeup. Only two years before making the hot list, she walked her first Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and became an Angel a year later. The model is dating American actress Kristen Stewart. After recently being spotted leaving the VS New York office after a fitting, it will come as no surprise that we expect to see the returning Angel in this upcoming show.

Stella Maxwell

Lais Ribeiro

Ribeiro started off her modeling career in Brazil after giving birth to her son. In 2010 she began to appear in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and in years after also featured in many of the commercials such as the 2011 Christmas and the 2012 Valentines’ Day commercials. Despite being cast for the runway every year since her first, she, unfortunately, sprained her ankle in 2012 during rehearsals, making her unable to walk that year. In 2015 she became an Angel and last year was chosen to wear the Champagne Nights Fantasy Bra, worth $2 million.

Lais Ribeiro

Kendall Jenner

Kendall may be from one of the most famous families in America these days, but that doesn’t mean the young supermodel has been content to simply ride the wave her older sisters have created. Jenner has managed to build a spectacular modeling career that mainly stemmed from her Instagram following. This year, Kendall is continuing to build momentum by returning to the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show after taking a hiatus last year. Once again, Kendall will enjoy one of the top spots at the show.

Kendall Jenner

Gigi Hadid

When it comes to Gigi Hadid, it’s clear that not just her look but her supermodel attitude runs in the family. Though she began her career when she was only two years old, it should come as no surprise that Gigi was able to seamlessly transition her childhood career into a more adult one. The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has been just one of the projects the eldest Hadid sibling has had the opportunity to work on, and she’ll also be returning this year.

Gigi Hadid

Romee Strijd

Relaxing in bed on a Saturday morning drinking her espresso, Romee Strijd looks absolutely flawless even in the absence of beauty cosmetics. The 23-year-old model is set to shine on the runway this year as she is chosen to wear the Swarovski look. Strijd will take to the runway as part of the Celestial Angel segment and will walk in a look that is embellished with more than 125,000 Swarovski crystals. Taking 250 hours to apply, a total of 55,000 crystals will cover the wings.

Romee Strijd

Josephine Skriver

It is almost as if the saying “I woke up like this” was made for Josephine, given the fact that she looks almost exactly the same with and without makeup. Josephine has walked the Victoria’s Secret shows consecutively every year since starting with the brand in 2013 and was made an Angel in 2016 before carrying 20-plus pounds of no fewer than 450,000 Swarovski crystals on her wings. We will certainly expect to see the Danish model with exquisite cheekbones making her way down the runway this year.

Josephine Skriver

Jasmine Tookes

Even without makeup, Tookes’ skin glows with natural beauty. This American model, raised in California, was always inspired by Tyra Banks. Little did she know that by 2015 she would walk the same runway as Tyra as an Angel herself. Tookes was selected to wear the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Fantasy Bra (worth $3 million) at the 2016 show in Paris, France. This made her the third black model to wear the bra. Tookes will feature on this year’s catwalk after she was recently seen by the paparazzi after her fitting.

Jasmine Tookes

Marisa Miller

Miller became best known for her work for Victoria’s Secret as well as the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. In 2o07, Miller became an Angel and appeared alongside Heidi Klum in the television commercial for the It bra. Two years later, in 2009, she was chosen to wear the Fantasy Bra which featured 2,300 white, champagne and cognac diamonds, and a 16-carat heart-shaped brown-yellow diamond pendant. In late 2010 she hung up her wings and confirmed the end of her Angels era.

Marisa Miller

Bella Hadid

Unlike her older sister, Bella didn’t begin modeling until she was a teenager, having harbored hopes of competing in the Olympics, rather than strutting the catwalk. Luckily, she realized it was worth returning to her roots and began walking the runway before she even turned 20. While it may seem like she could easily be overshadowed by sister Gigi, Bella has managed to distinguish herself from her sister, even when the two have appeared in shows side by side, as they will do again in this year’s show.

Bella Hadid

Behati Prinsloo

While many know her for being married and having two kids with Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine, Behati Prinsloo has made a name for herself as a Victoria’s Secret Angel, having first earned the title back in 2009. Originally the first Pink contract model, Prinsloo’s career highlight came after opening both the 2014 and 2015 editions of Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Despite not being a part of the last couple of annual shows, the Namibian model will be making a comeback for the 2018 edition.

Behati Prinsloo

Sara Sampaio

Having appeared in Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show for the last five consecutive years, there is no denying that Sara Sampaio is one of the key fixtures of the iconic fashion brand. However, there is so much more to the Portuguese model than just VS. Sampaio has also made appearances in magazines such as Sports Illustrated, GQ, Elle, and Vogue and has been the Beauty Ambassador of Moroccanoil since 2017. This year will mark her sixth appearance on the annual show.

Sara Sampaio

Cindy Bruna

Despite still only being 24 years of age, it feels like Cindy Bruna has been in the modeling world for decades now. The young model, who is of Italian and Congolese descent, made her debut on the 2013 edition of Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and hasn’t missed a show since. This means that the 2018 event will already be her sixth appearance on the annual show. Amazingly, the French model is the first to ever have walked exclusively for Calvin Klein.

Taylor Hill

Another model to have consistently walked as a Victoria’s Secret Angel for the last few years is American Taylor Hill. Having made her debut in the 2014 edition of the show, Hill has added many strings to her bow, building up to her most recent appearance in 2018’s Fashion Show. Still only 22 years old, the young model has walked for the very best designers, including Versace, Chanel, Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Ralph Lauren, and Tommy Hilfiger, to name a few.

Taylor Hill

Miranda Kerr

When you are as popular of a supermodel as Miranda Kerr is, then there is no doubt that you would have walked the Victoria Secret runway at least once in your career. After an already successful modeling career with Maybelline and other brands, Kerr signed a contract with Victoria’s Secret in 2007 making her the first Australian Victoria’s Secret model. She became a globally recognized Angel and appeared in many catwalks which aired on television across the world. Sadly for everyone, she hung up her wings in 2012.

Miranda Kerr

Heidi Klum

Heidi was the first German Victoria’s Secret model and eventually became Head Angel. After 13 years walking for Victoria’s Secret, Klum returned her wings and decided to continue on another path. Like her fellow Angel, Tyra Banks, Heidi made a name for herself. She helped young designers make their way into the industry by hosting the reality show Project Runway in which she was nominated for six Emmy Awards. However, Klum didn’t completely part ways with the lingerie brand as she hosted the show in 2002, 2006, 2007, and 2009.

Heidi Klum

Tyra Banks

America’s Next Top Model host, Tyra Banks, is one of the most well-known supermodels in the world. After signing a contract with Victoria’s Secret, she modeled as an Angel from 1997 to 2005. Whilst she is a very memorable Angel, many do not know that she almost was fired due to her hair. She revealed that at first there was no hairstylist who knew how to work with her African-American texture. Despite the hiccup, she became the first black model to sign with the brand and wear the Fantasy Bra.

Tyra Banks

Alessandra Ambrosio

Last year we saw an end to Ambrosio’s career with Victoria’s Secret and she hung up her wings after the Fashion show. Having become an Angel in 2000, Ambrosio continued to wear the lingerie until 2017, including one made entirely out of candy! In 2011 she walked the runway wearing the heaviest wings ever made whilst pregnant with her second child. The Brazilian model was selected as the spokesmodel for the company’s “PINK” line. And, of course, she was selected to wear the Fantasy Bra in 2012.

Alessandra Ambrosio

Toni Garrn

This German beauty will be returning to the Victoria’s Secret show this year after a five-year absence. Garrn gained her big break in the fashion industry in 2008 after signing a contract with Calvin Klein. Three years later she joined the Victoria’s Secret Angels.

Toni Garrn

Adriana Lima

Lima was another amongst the chosen ones to get to wear the ‘Fantasy Bra’, a true honor in the Angel world. This Brazilian model has been a well-known Victoria Secret Angel since she walked the catwalk in 1999 aged only 18. She was contracted as an Angel in 2000 and appeared on shows ever since making her the longest-running model and named “the most valuable Victoria’s Secret Angel” in 2017. In 2012 she even opened the show two months after delivering her second child – these women cannot be real! There is no doubt we will see her this year.

Adriana Lima

Helena Christensen

Hailing from Denmark, Nordic beauty Helena Christensen spent plenty of years walking the catwalk for Victoria’s Secret. Christensen’s career took off in the 1990s, when she joined the ranks of the first ever supermodels. Christensen continued to match her peers in industry achievements, appearing in over 650 magazine covers during her younger years. She might not be donning wings this year, but if her appearance at last year’s Versace summer show alongside other big names is any indication, Helena’s still got it.

Helena Christensen

Doutzen Kroes

This Dutch supermodel is not just a pretty face. She is also the brand ambassador and spokesperson for L’Oréal Paris as well as an activist and philanthropist. In 2008 she confirmed that she was the newest Angel and became a regular, walking for many years after. However, after walking in 2014 she announced this would be her last and she was handing in her wings. She told Vogue UK, “Victoria’s Secret gave me a lot, but I had to move on and do different things.” Maybe we will see a surprise visit.

Doutzen Kroes

Winnie Harlow

Winnie Harlow’s trajectory into the world of fashion has been nothing short of staggering. Despite only being 24 years old, Harlow has proven that “different is beautiful,” after fully embracing her Vitiligo skin condition. As a result of her reputation as a spokesperson for the condition, as well as being a contestant on America’s Next Top Model, Harlow will finally make her debut appearance at Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Her fans on social media are absolutely thrilled about the news.

Elsa Hosk

Finally, for those waiting in anticipation for this years show, the wait is over. We can reveal that Elsa Hosk has been selected for the upcoming Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show to wear the 2018 Dream Angels Fantasy Bra, which has been designed by Atelier Swarovski. As beautiful with or without makeup, Hosk has only been an Angel since 2015 and is preparing to wear the $1 million with 2,100 100-percent Swarovski Created Diamonds which took over 930 hours to create. We are just dying to see what else this year has to offer!
